Sensitized photo-oxidation of amino acids in proteins: some important biological implications.
The sensitized photo-oxidation of amino acids in proteins is a special case of chemical modification, which is used in particular to study buried and exposed groups in proteins. The general principles of the technique and various applications of it are discussed in this article.
متن کاملSelective Oxidation of Xylenes to Toluic Acids
A mixture of manganese, cobalt and lead para-amino benzoates supported on silica gel is used to catalyze oxidation of xylenes to toluic acids in presence of oxygen or air. Reactions are clean and catalysts can be recovered easily and reused.

PHOTO-OXIDATION OF PURE PROTEINS. IN earlier experiments [Harris, 1926, 1] it has been shown that, when blood is exposed to light, absorption of oxygen by the plasma occurs; further, that neither the saline constituents of plasma nor its glucose are responsible to any measurable extent for the uptake of oxygen. The proteins and lipins remain to be considered. As regards the proteins, since seru...

متن کاملProteins and Amino Acids
Proteins, from the Greek proteios, meaning first, are a class of organic compounds which are present in and vital to every living cell. In the form of skin, hair, callus, cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments, proteins hold together, protect, and provide structure to the body of a multi-celled organism. In the form of enzymes, hormones, antibodies, and globulins, they catalyze, regulate, an...
